In a tragic event in Maharashtra's Palghar district, a 31-year-old pedestrian lost his life after being struck by a coconut thrown carelessly from a local train passing over the Bhayander Creek bridge, as reported by officials.
Authorities revealed that the incident occurred on Saturday morning when a coconut, intended for immersion as part of a ritual, was discarded from the train. The victim has been identified as Sanjay Dattaram Bhoyer, who was crossing the railway bridge on his way to work.
Due to adverse weather conditions that halted boat services, Bhoyer opted for the railway bridge as an alternative route to reach Naigaon from Panzoo Island.
A passenger on the local train threw the coconut for the ritual, which struck Bhoyer between his ear and eye. He was promptly transported to a private hospital in Vasai, but due to severe head injuries, he was later transferred to Mumbai's J.J. Hospital for advanced treatment.
Unfortunately, officials confirmed that he succumbed to his injuries during the course of treatment.
